The SolarFlower - Golden Sunrise is a hands-on STEM building kit and kinetic sculpture created by Thames & Kosmos. Designed for children ages 8 and up, it allows users to construct a mechanical flower with moving petals powered entirely by clean solar energy.
Key Features & Mechanics
- Solar-Powered Operation: The kit includes a compact solar panel that transforms sunlight or a strong incandescent bulb (minimum 50 watts) into kinetic energy. It runs entirely without batteries or traditional electricity.
- Synchronized Petal Movement: An ingenious mechanical design utilizing motors and planetary gears allows all of its warm yellow-and-orange petals to rotate simultaneously. This synchronized spinning motion creates a unique and mesmerizing optical illusion effect.
- Educational Value: While building, kids learn foundational physics and environmental science principles, including how mechanical systems work, how solar cells generate electricity, and the basic concepts behind renewable energy and photosynthesis.
- Versatile Display: Once built, the flower can be clipped to a vase or flower pot. The solar panel can be attached directly to the stem or mounted to a nearby window to catch the sunlight.
